Job Description_ Civil Engineer
Basic Functions:
Design for concrete /steel structures such as metal buildings, platforms, equipment
foundations, concrete buildings.
Project civil specifications based on company specifications.
Project proposals related to civil/structural aspects.
Design calculations: Design projects with accuracy and within the time frames consistent with
the position expectations.
Demonstrate the ability and desire to “value-engineer” projects in order to achieve an efficient
and cost effective design to maximize profitability.
Analyze structures using various structural engineering software programs.
Scope of work for civil/structural jobs
Participate in construction support activities including responses to requests for information,
submittal reviews, construction site visits, and design revisions / management of change.
Coordinate requirements between other disciplines and perform checks of documents and
shop drawings.
Supervise and remain vigilant regarding all aspects of the design changes on the fields during
construction.
Evaluating bids technical proposals with recommendations.
Attend progress meetings held at the site, and work on solving any design related issues with
other team member.
Complete any technical assignment as directed by the engineering manager.
As knowledge and experience is gained, candidate must be willing to check and seal the work
of his or her co-workers.
Other job responsibilities include the following duties:
Work independently in the group as the sole civil design engineer and work in a team of
engineering and design office
Apply experience, engineering techniques, codes, standards, analysis calculations,
specification, company procedures, sound judgment, and design criteria to conduct his work.
Ensure that all civil and structural works done at company are per approved specifications.
Prepare quality assurance and control documents for civil/structural jobs.
Field inspection of work activities, surveying and measurement taking.
Act as project engineer for civil/structural related projects/jobs.
Prepare drawings for design and produce himself in electronic format. Also, if work load
increases, he shall produce sketches to allow designers/draft men to draw on electronic
format. He will then verify the drawings.
Work directly with project engineers, designers, CAD operators, and draft men to ensure work
activities are coordinated. He may also be required to supervise and train these personnel.
Use software related to civil/structural for design, calculations and preparation of design
packages.
Responsible to plan and conduct independent work requiring judgment in the evaluation,
selection, application and adaptation of engineering techniques, procedures and criteria.
Devise new approaches to problems, and prepare or modify drawings, specifications,
calculations, charts and graphs, and monitor work for compliance to applicable codes,
accepted engineering practices. Requirements:
Competent in structural design, analysis of concrete and steel works, and materials
specifications.
Experience with structural analysis software.
Comprehensive knowledge of structural design standards and codes.
Engineers with multitasking capabilities between design and construction coordination skills
are highly preferable.
Have an effective management and supervisory skills prioritizing on safety, quality, and on-
time project delivery.
Other duties may also include special tasks such as trouble shooting civil/structural issues,
managing civil/structural intensive projects, training colleagues, etc.
Must be pro-active, adaptable and a motivated team player.
Must have excellent communication.
Accuracy and precision of work.
Ability to work to deadlines and under pressure.
Proficient in using MS Office including MS Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint.
Education and skills:
Education Levels : civil engineering
8 years of experience in engineering and design in Buildings and Infrastructure.
Experience in a similar role preferable on large scale industrial and building projects in Saudi
Arabia and /or GCC countries.
Demonstrated efficient time management and ability to work to fixed deadlines.
Specific Skills:
Proficiency in written and spoken in English is essential, proficiency in written and spoken
Arabic knowledge is desirable.
Good communication skills and team work spirit.
Ability to think methodically, to design, plan and manage projects.
